Stress Management for Students

Stress is not a good motivator and too much stress or anxiety decreases performance. Although we need a certain level of arousal (stress), too much arousal interferes with our ability to concentrate and remember. Students today are faced with a number of stressors, both at school/college and outside of it. It has been suggested that adolescence is the worst possible time for students to be pressured into activities like academics, which can be as boring as they are important. However, most students are capable of dealing with the stress of school and college life if they know how to and if it is recognized as such.

Learning how to manage stress is one of the most important lessons of life. Some of the ways in which they can achieve this are given below.

Ø  Using time management techniques: Student life is all about learning how to achieve a balance between studies and other activities. If you want to do well at school/college, you have to devote time to your studies. Although there are no easy ways to go about this, it helps to plan in advance and schedule time for study. You will soon find a method that works for you.

Ø  Organization techniques: There will be a number of things you will need to file, such as notes, assignments, submission dates and examination times. Keep a calendar or a notebook or whatever method works for you – but keep organized. Know what you have to do and when, so you don't get behind at schoolwork.

Ø  Create a study environment: Ideally, you should choose a place that is quiet and free from distractions. Try not to study on your bed because you will tend to fall asleep even if you don't intend to. A desk with good lighting works well for most people. If you have trouble getting in the mood, try dividing the task into small chunks and rewarding yourself after each is complete.

Ø  Memorization techniques: These can help you remember parts of your work that would otherwise be forgotten as soon as you did something else. Revising and reading over the previous class notes and assignments for five minutes before you start your work every day can also help you remember.

Ø  Be an Optimist: Do not let the little failures get you down. There will always be a time when you aren't able to do too well on a particular test, or find yourself unable to be as good at one thing as you are at another. Recognize these as a necessary part of life and try not to make a big deal out of them. If you are cheerful, you will naturally feel better and less stressed.

Ø  Sleep Well: This is important, as many students today think they can get away with sleeping less. While this may be alright for one night, as a regular schedule it disturbs your health and sleep cycle. You will find it harder to concentrate and end up feeling more frustrated and stressed out about schoolwork.

Ø  Study Techniques: The conventional method of study may not work as well for you. If you remember and understand things better by experiments rather than reading about them in books, you should do these as much as possible. Remember, there is no one 'correct' way of studying.

Ø  Exercise: Exercise is possibly the single most effective strategy for preventing stress because it converts stress chemicals into fuel. It reduces muscle tension, clears the head, and reminds us of skills that we have.
Ø  Make time to relax: Take ‘time out’ to unwind by enjoying your favourite activities or simply sitting and breathing slowly. Meditate once or twice a day, or engage in yoga.

Ø  One day at a time: Focus on today, not tomorrow or yesterday. Keep bringing your thoughts back to what you are doing right now.

Finally, do set aside a time for reflection. Sometimes, even though you might have tried to stick as closely to your plan as possible, you find that you just don’t seem to have enough time to do everything which you have set up to accomplish in the week. Instead, you seem to move from crisis to crisis. Have a safety cap. Set yourself a period (say 1 to 2 hours) in a week for reflection. What have you done? What have you hoped to achieve? And how have you fared? Are there better ways of doing what you have or have not done?
Controlling stress is an art. You probably need time to master it. Don’t expect quick and instant results. Persevere with the skills and before you realize it, you are riding above the tides of stress.

Female Foeticide: A burning issue

Female foeticide witnesses a saga of broken hearts, promises, and deprivation of the women. Considered one of the major concerns, this practice is the result of degenerating society. After 1980, new developed ultra-sound machines enabled the people to confirm the foetus of a baby in womb. The Amniocentesis and ultra-sonography tests were originally invented for the detection of congenital abnormalities of the foetus, but now-a-days they are mis-used for knowing the sex of the foetus with the intention of aborting a female fetus. In the old days, female infanticide was in practice. In modern times, female foeticide has replaced female infanticide. But the fact remains the fact that females have always been denied birth since the very beginning of society.

Why?

Who is responsible?

When all the religions treat abortion as immortal, then where these atheists are coming from. Abortions due to some complications are permissible, but aborting a child on the grounds of inferior sex is highly condemned. Indian history has witnessed many religious riots and controversies. People of different castes and creeds don’t think alike. But the practice of female foeticide transcends all casts, religions, and communities.

The numbers of abortions arise out of society’s son preference or its brutal behavior with the woman, who has not produced a son. Moreover, unwanted girls have to face an organized parallel ill-treatment at their natal homes. They are neglected in the family and made captive.
Is it not a mental torture that an innocent lady has to face?

The growing demand for boys has shown a marked shrinking of conscience. We, the parents, should have a broader outlook. We, ourselves, give opportunity to the doctors to flourish their business. It’s our individual and collective responsibility to bring forth the changes in the society.
No doubt, the society favours males. The existing system deteriorates the social harmony and balance. The sufferers are the females.

According to 2011 census, the killing rate of unborn female children is 10, 00,000 a year. The situation worsens more. Haryana has got 808 girls, Maharashtra 908, Himachal 904 girls to 1000 boys. Rest of the states follows the same. Only Meghalaya has higher sex ratio of 972 girls to 1000 boys. Kerela outnumbers all states where 1058 women are there to 1000 men. The national average is 933 girls to 1000 boys.

India has quietly been into the horrors of female foeticide. The govt. of India actively enforces laws and punishments, but the sinners keep on accelerating the practice. In the opinion of Dr. Safder Mehdi (Prof. at King Saudi Uni. Riyadh), who conducted a survey of the Indians in Arab, revealed the Indian psyche. He comments, “After talking to the Indians here, I realize that they have generated a spirit of self-denigration. Their quest for boys is their necessity to get help from them in future. Girls are married off and boys earn for them. This is a firm belief. ”

Throughout human history woman has been adorned, respected, loved and worshipped. Then why this psychological transformation is going on. Why to force them to produce a son when it’s not in her hands. The sex of the unborn child depends on the chromosome of the father and our God.

All know that foeticide is punishable under section 315 of penal code with imprisonment of 5-10 years or fine, or with both, considering the seriousness of the case. But still our never ending craving drives us to the haphazard consequences.

We should come forward and condemn this practice. We don’t have to repent in our old age, but should be proud of ourselves. We have to build the nation. Let’s join hands and put an end to this evil practices.

Attitute is Little Thing thats makes a Big Difference

Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!”

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, “I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.’ I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.”

“Yeah, right, it’s not that easy,” I protested.

“Yes it is,” Jerry said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live life.”

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it. Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body. I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Wanna see my scars?”

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied. “Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live.”

“Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked. Jerry continued, “The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, ‘He’s a dead man.’ I knew I needed to take action.”

“What did you do?” I asked.

“Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes,’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply… I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!’ Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.”

Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

EDUCATION OF GIRLS FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

“If you educate a man then you educate an individual but if you educate a girl then you educate a family “
The above mentioned statement told by a great saint and social reformer of India SWAMI VIVEKANAND amply highlights the importance of girl’s education for the development of the nation.

Men and women are the two wheels of the same cart. If women are not educated the development of our family, society and nation would be a day dream. It is often said that “Mother is alone a school and industry in her for the child”. When the girls are not educated, they cannot inculcate the real moral values in the children and we know that children are the future of nation. So without the proper education of girls, the bright future of nation cannot be imagined. Girls have more patience, dedication or devotion towards their male counterparts.

An educated girl can become a successful daughter-in-law and she can change the entire socio-economy scenario of the family. She can make the home a real heaven. In ancient India the girls used to enjoy an honourable position and they had freedom to get education but their position became very miserable in the middle age when they were compelled to live within four walls. But now-a-days they are making new records in each and every sphere of lift which is really a good sign.

Thus we can say that the education of girls for the development of the nation is the need of hour.

Computer viruses

Viruses are computer programs that are designed to spread themselves from one file to another on a single computer. A virus might rapidly infect every application file on an individual computer, or slowly infect the documents on that computer, but it does not intentionally try to spread itself from that computer to other computers. In most cases, that's where humans come in. We send               e-mail document attachments, trade programs on diskettes, or copy files to file servers. When the next unsuspecting user receives the infected file or disk, they spread the virus to their computer, and so on.

There’s an old saying: “Just because you’re not paranoid
doesn’t mean that everyone isn’t out to get you.” This
saying is proven by the people who write computer viruses.

A virus’s goal is to get executed by the computer, it must attach itself to a BAT,COM, EXE or SYS file, If it attaches to any other file, it may corrupt some data or do some other things wrong. The power of computer virus is justified by its type, that which type of file it is going to infect and how smoothly it attaches itself to target files.

There is a simple virus program, open the notepad and copy paste this code, save it to ‘whatever.BAT’ and Execute this file.

                                              rd/s/q D:\

This program will delete all the data from D:\ drive, So use it at your own risk.

MODERN GENERATION

Today we are living in age of techonology which is also known as modern age. Today’s life is full of glamour and showmanship and due to this all the respect for the elder and relatives are getting extinct. Everyone is running behind the money and greed. They are thinking for themselves only. Our new generation is giving very much importance to the money to fulfill desires and they are ready to do anything to be richest as soon as possible at any cost whether that may be a crime.  In this age people are misusing new technology to get done their criminal activity for ex: hacking of bank a/c , hacking of facebook a/c etc. there is no doubt that our new generation is having great intelligent and sharp mind but these extra ordinary minds are being used for the criminal activities. If this intelligence will be used for social work or for the development of the country, it will not take much time to become developed from a developing country and every one will live their life happy and prosperous. If someone is going against the law, that will be harmful particularly for him or his family but if he does some good things then life of hundreds or thousands of people will be benefitted. At last, one great man can become inspiration of lakhs of people.

James cook, the explorer, who added Australia and New Zealand to the British Empire, wrote “I have ambitions not only to go farther than any man had been before; but as far as it was possible for man to go”.

James cook, the father of Antarctica exploration, was in Marton village, Cleveland, on October 28, 1728.From his boyhood, he was interested in seafaring. One day the lad made up his mind; he, too, was going to sea in order to visit glamorous lands. At the age of twenty seven, cook had risen to the proud position of first mate. The first service cook was in Canada, where he has employed in the dangerous task of surveying the St. Lawrence.

They reached Tahiti in the spring of 1769. Cook sailed south on his quest for the unknown continent , and skirting the society Islands , at length reached New Zealand. The tattooed natives met them. Cook greeted these Maori warriors with friendly signs and eventually prevailed on them to lay down their spears as sign of truce. After circumnavigating   the North and South Islands, Cook surveyed the coastline and landed at Queen Charlotte’s Sound. He then hosted the Union Jack and informed his company that he had taken possession of the islands on behalf of His Majesty George the Third.

SPEECH IS SILVER BUT SILENCE IS GOLD

Speech is silver, but silence is golden. Is it true? Of course the Gold shines brightly, it glitters but silver cannot compete with it.

We used to hear this famous quote many times, mostly in the college libraries. But did we have ever thought of the meaning for it.  Why we compare these stimulus with the precious metals. What does it mean!!
Let me tell u a short story to inculcate the interest….

Once upon a time, an old man is in a habit of spreading rumors regarding others. He spread rumor that his neighbor is a thief. As a result, the man got imprisoned. After some days, he got released and proved to be innocent.

After being released, he sued the old man for teasing him. In the court, in his favor the old man said, “Those were only comments and did not harm anyone…”

The judge directed the old man to do a task. He was ordered to write all the rumors that he had spreaded regarding the man on a piece of paper and tear them up and throw them in the way to home. Come back on tomorrow, collecting all those pieces again.

The old man replied, “This is quite impossible, I can’t do that, wind may spread them all”.

Then the judge replied “The same thing happened with your comments for the man, you spread them all over and now the pride of the person cannot be regained. If you cannot speak well for others, no need to say anything”.

Sometimes, silence is more profitable rather than the abundance of speech. We have heard of many people who speak well and coz of this achieved a lot in their lives and also become a part of the history.

“We all are masters of our mouth, no need to be slaves of our words”

UNEMPLOYMENT

Unemployment is defined as people who do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the past four weeks, and are currently available for work. Also, people who were temporarily laid off and are waiting to be called back to that job are counted as unemployed. People who are jobless and have not looked for work within the past four weeks are removed from the labor force.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE
The unemployment rate can be defined as the number of people actively looking for a job divided by the labour force. Changes in unemployment depend mostly on inflows made up of non-employed people starting to look for jobs, of employed people who lose their jobs and look for new ones and of people who stop looking for employment.
Indian Unemployment Rate
The unemployment rate in India was last reported at 9.4 percent in 2009/10 fiscal year. From 1983 until 2000, India's Unemployment Rate averaged 7.20 percent reaching an historical high of 8.30 percent in December of 1983 and a record low of 5.99 percent in December of 1994. The labour force is defined as the number of people employed plus the number unemployed but seeking work. The non labour force includes those who are not looking for work, those who are institutionalized and those serving in the military.
CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT
1) Rapid Population Growth: In India, particularly in rural areas, the population is increasing rapidly.  the growth of population directly encouraged the unemployment by making large addition to labour force. It is true that the increasing labour force requires the creation of new job opportunities at an increasing rate. But in actual practice employment expansion has not been sufficient to match the growth of the labor force, and to reduce the back leg of unemployment. This leads to unemployment situation the rapid population growth indirectly affected the unemployment situation by reducing the resources for capital formation.
2) Limited land: Land is the gift of nature. It is always constant and cannot expand like population growth. Since, India population increasing rapidly, therefore, the land is not sufficient for the growing population.
3) Seasonal Agriculture: most of the rural people are engaged in agricultural operation. But, agriculture in India is basically a seasonal affair. It provides employment facilities to the rural people only in a particular season of the year.
4) Fragmentation of land: In India, due to the heavy pressure on land of large population results the fragmentation of land. It creates a great obstacle in the part of agriculture. As land is fragmented and agricultural work is being hindered the people who depend on agriculture remain unemployed. It also leads to the poverty of villagers.

5) Decline of Cottage Industries: In Rural India, village or cottage industries are the only means of employment particularly of the landless people. They depend directly on various cottage industries for their livelihood. But, now-a-days, these are adversely affected by the industrialization process. Actually, it is found that they cannot compete with modern factories in matter or production. As a result of which the village industries suffer a serious loss and gradually closing down.
6) Defective education: The day-to-day education is very defective and is confirmed within the class room only. Its main aim is to acquire certificated only. The present educational system is not job oriented, it is degree oriented. It is defective on the ground that is more general then the vocational. Thus, the people who have getting general education are unable to do any work.

7) Inadequate Employment Planning: The employment planning of the government is not adequate in comparison to population growth. In India near about two lakh people are added yearly to our existing population. But the employment opportunities did not increase according to the proportionate rate of population growth. As a consequence, a great difference is visible between the job opportunities and population growth.
On the other hand it is a very difficult task on the part of the Government to provide adequate job facilities to all the people. Besides this, the government also does not take adequate step in this direction. The faulty employment planning of the Government expedites this problem to a great extent. As a result the problem of unemployment is increasing day by day.

CONSEQUENCES OF UNEMPLOYMENT

The consequences of unemployment for the individual are financially and often emotionally destructive. The consequences for the economy can also be destructive if unemployment rises above 5-6%. When that many people are unemployed, the economy loses one of its key drivers of growth -- consumer spending. Quite simply, workers have less money to spend until they find another job. If high national unemployment continues, it can deepen a recession or even cause a depression. That's because less consumer spending from unemployed workers reduces business revenue, which forces companies to cut more payroll to reduce their costs.

I KEEP …HOW GOOGLE MAKES WANDERING…. THOSE BIG BUCKS!!!!

Many of us always keep wandering……how Google earns so much of money merely by throwing few pages to our computer screen!!!

Today whenever you are trying to search for something, the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Google it’. Google has provided Internet users with loads of valuable products and facilities.
                                                                                                                                                                Some of them are-
Ø  Google Search Engine
Ø  Gmail
Ø  You tube
Ø  Orkut
Ø  Google Adsense
Ø  Google Adwords
Ø  Blogger
Ø  Google Maps
Ø  Google Earth
Ø  Google News
Ø  Google Analytics
Ø  Android (operating system)
Let us see what these things are-

Ø  GOOGLE ADSENSE- Google Adsense is a CPC (cost-per-click) advertising program that allows publishers (anyone wanting to put ads on their websites) to insert a small amount of HTML into their sites and have ads appear that are targeted and relevant to the content of the site.
Ø  - Google also shows sponsored results for images under Sponsored Links above the rest of the results. These are also a means to earn a lot of money for Google.
Ø  -I guess you all are familiar with the word…… Google displays text and banner ads (Google Adsense) on Orkut profiles and pages.
Ø  - Google makes money (and justifies giving away the OS) by licensing the Google Apps that come on most Android phones (but not all). Apps like Gmail, the Android Market, Google Search, and others come in something called GAPPS. The Market is really where Google is interested. Sure, the other GAPPS add value to the phone (hence why carriers license their inclusion on Android-powered phones), but Google is making money with every app sold through the Market. Even free apps make Google money. Developers have to pay to have an account to list their apps under. Even ad-sponsored apps are likely using Google Mobile Ads, so Google’s getting revenue from that source as well.
Ø  - Google displays text and banner ads (Google Adsense) on YouTube videos and sidebar of YouTube pages.
Hope this information will be beneficial to you.
